This is a non-party and non-institutional movement for Marina Silva
to become President of Brazil. We see Marina as someone with
outstanding political and environmental leadership qualities and
the capacity to take on the role of President of Brazil, leading
the country towards a sustainable twenty first century.
Since the start of her political journey with Chico Mendes in the
Amazon, Marina has become the embodiment of a commitment to all
living beings, working tirelessly to bring an ecological
perspective to Brazilian and global politics. In today’s Brazil,
which suffers from a profound crisis of values in public life,
Marina is also a shining example of ethics in politics.
We believe in the candidacy of this Brazilian and planetary woman
who has the political and pedagogical ability to represent the
emerging, and urgent, transition towards Democracy with
Sustainability. Marina Silva has the power and capability that few
politicians currently possess to make the necessary fundamental
changes a reality.
The candidacy of Marina Silva has the potential to teach Brazilian
society how to find new political paths. Together we will be able
to build societies that are sustainable in their social, economic,
environmental, political and ethical dimensions.
This movement is the expression of the innovative power of social
networks that seek new ways of building political legitimacy to
address new societal dynamics and concerns, without for the time
being concerned with the restrictions of political parties.
Join with us in persuading her to acknowledge the power of her
leadership for the construction of a more sustainable society.
PS: this is an environmental and ethical citizens’ initiative
comprising politically and ecologically concerned individuals, and
with no formal links as yet with Marina Silva herself. Become
someone co-responsible for Democracy with Sustainability.
Marina´s Words:
“I have come to the conclusion that, after thirty years of
socio-environmental struggle in Brazil, (...) the time has arrived
to stop banging my head against the wall trying to persuade the
political party I have belonged to for almost thirty years, but
rather the time has come to join up with those different sectors of
society willing to take on the role, unreservedly and clearly, of
becoming the agents of change for a just and sustainable Brazil, to
bring about the value and paradigm shifts that will usher in a new
model of development for the country. (…)”
“I am firmly convinced that this decision is in line with the
thinking of those thousands of people in Brazil and worldwide who
for decades have clearly pointed out the errors of a concept of
development focused on material growth at any cost, with
exaggerated rewards for the few and perverse outcomes for the
majority at the price, especially for the poorest, of destruction
of natural resources and of quality of life.”
“I want to be connected to the living nuclei of society, where
seeds are germinating.”
“Brazil needs to live up to the environmental superpower it is.
However Brazil is perhaps the only country able to achieve what the
United States achieved in the past. We have the resources. Brazil
has enormous hydroelectric potential; it has thirty years-worth of
ethanol production technology, three and a half million square
kilometers of agricultural land and eleven percent of the
freshwater resources of the planet. It would be able to double its
production without felling another single tree.”
“My heart is trying to tell me something.”
“At 51 years of age it is time to be a champion of utopias.”
